What do I mean by documentary?

To me, documentary photography is about capturing the images that the photographer has no influence over nor can control. It is the reality of the situation, simply captured in a photograph. In order for this to happen, I have to be open, highly observant and receptive to the story that unfolds. I feel that when we are open to allowing moments to unfold naturally, without any interference, and then shooting them as they are, we begin to see great moments. This is when the real magic happens. This is documentary coverage.

What is "a moment"?

To me, a moment (photographically speaking) is a brief segment of time that, when captured, can offer great significance to the people captured in that time or to the witnesses of that moment. That is quite a broad description. In essence, anything can be a moment. It is highly subjective. As long as it has meaning to you, it is a moment. I find that the moments, which arise naturally, and of their own accord are usually the ones that end up holding the most value to people. So, I avoid moments that are contrived. In fact, I encourage the brides I work with to make as much time in their wedding day free from photo or unnecessary wedding tasks, so that they can spend more time with family and friends, allowing for moments that are more real to happen.

What about portraits and family shots?

I do value portraits and formal shots as I feel they are an important element of every wedding. However, for me there is a time and place for these. I will work with couples to find a suitable time to take these so that it does not clash with the general running of the itinerary. Formal and creative couple of shots are a key part of the wedding day but I feel they should not dominate it. Throughout the wedding day, I photograph both portraits and candid shots.

The investment

The vast majority of my wedding clients request coverage at multiple events.  In order to quote accurately for a commission,  I need to know dates, hours and location.  Pricing is dependent on a number of factors such as the time of the year, whether its a weekday event or a weekend event, the number of guests, and the products and services you will need.   Drop me an email and lets start a conversation. This is where it all starts. From here I can fine-tune your needs and expectations. If dates are available, I will email you back with a quote and some options to meet to discuss in person or via Skype.

What about the details?

I understand that the couples work hard to incorporate their personalities into the design details of the wedding such as the cake, the flowers and other wedding decor. I make sure that we have some images of all of these details. Since I believe that that is not what the day is really about, I do not showcase these things too often in blog posts and sample galleries. Instead, I include these images in the full gallery of wedding images that each couple receives.

Other types of work?

Since I focus more on people and emotions, I feel a great story can be found anywhere. Therefore, my work isn't just limited to wedding-related events. If you have a story you would like me to capture, please email me to let me know. Shooting outside the UK I love to travel and see the world. I welcome any opportunity to travel and to tell a story in a different part of the world. Please email me with your details and I will be happy to accommodate you.

How do we book?

Drop me an email with your event details. Please include the details of the event dates, hours and locations. I would like to know a bit more about you as well as what you are looking for. Once I have this information I will send over a quote. I am online most evenings after 21:30. Join me for an online chat.

Are we the right fit ?

My approach involves spending time with my clients, their families and friends before, during and after the event. Therefore, for me, it is very important that we are a good fit from the get go. Once I am officially on-board, I start doing site visits, pre-wedding shoots and maintain regular contact before the day. Taking this extra care to get to know my clients better allows me to create images that are more personal to them, instead of simply producing generic wedding photos. I highly encourage contacting me for more details about the full service package offered for your investment. I love having you in the studio so I can show you how it all comes together. Ultimately, I feel this is what sets me apart at the core level and this is the reason why I do what I do. Thirteen years of shooting weddings has shaped my philosophy and my approach to documenting individual stories. I have learned a ton over these years, which I have used to help hundreds of couples to think outside the box and achieve a wedding experience they could never have imagined.
